Pheasant Hunting for New Hunters
Over the past 45 years hunting pheasants I have learned a few things about the birds to help get more in my game bag. When they wake up from the night’s sleep they will walk from the roosting habitat to their feeding habitat (corn, beans, wheat, milo, sunflowers in farming areas). The distance from roosting to feed is less than ½ mile. They are usually done feeding around 10:00am and will move to loafing areas. This habitat is knee high cover with easy escape avenues. They will remain in this area until 4:00pm to 5:00pm and then move back to the feeding habitat. Once their crops are full, they will usually fly back to the night roosting habitat.
